During a half-hour boat trip on the canals of Bruges you are
treated to some fantastic views over monuments and historical
buildings. You are dished up aspects of Bruges you would never be
able to behold when walking. The driver also gives information and
tells fun anecdotes or petty facts.
Bruges from one of the boats on
the canals means experiencing Bruges from a totally different
angle, it is a relaxed way of taking in breathtaking impressions
of Bruges. A tour through the canals of Bruges takes you through a
major part of the city. You'll see the picturesque buildings from
a different (lower!) point-of-view, and be able to take many
pictures. The tours are narrated in several languages (English,
Dutch/Flemish, & French and even Spanish or Japanese) and in
addition to telling tourists what they are seeing, give some
historical background and/or anecdotes about particular buildings
or events.
"The view from the boat was
beautiful. I remember thinking how my gondola ride in Venice was
ridiculously overpriced. I enjoyed the churches, schools,
buildings, museums, numerous bridges, the trees, even an old
brewery, all from a front row perspective. Our captain pointed out
things like the smallest window (a tiny glass opening at the side
of a building) and gave us many canal measurements and numbers of
bridges to contemplate. The sky had cleared by the time the boated
started, just in time for the light to break through. It was so
picturesque I found it hard to stop taking too many photos."
