You never saw the city of Bruges that way!
Coronavirus or not, in Bruges they want to make the Christmas period of 2020 unforgettable. And whether it will be unforgettable! The winter markets may not take place, but that does not stop the residents of Bruges from providing the streets with mood lighting. The second edition of Winter Glow Bruges will take place as usual - and in a corona-proof way.
It will be an engaging and romantic edition in which light is central and must ensure a connection between the people in these dark days. Ten spectacular light installations will be spread throughout the historic city center and create a beautiful (free!) Light trail.
A wonderful winter experience – that’s what this second edition of Winter Glow is all about. And once again, it is a delightful experience. This year, the theme is 'Connection' – something we are all in need of during these difficult times. Winter Glow will allow us to connect – at a safe distance – with each other and with the city and its rich history. The ten light installations will be sure to immerse you in a warm glow.
Winter Glow and its new lights trail allow us to feel connected with one another, the city of Bruges and its rich history.
Some of those installations will be interactive, so that you can also play with light yourself during the walk. You will be able to project your own light sticker on the Powder Tower (Poertoren), create a lace work on the facades at Site Oud Sint-Jan and light balls at the Fish Market (Vismarkt) will be able to admire that dance to the tones of a beautiful piece of music composed by local young violence.
Winter Glow extends across the whole city. You can enjoy the light trail from 27 November 2020 until 10 January 2021 (daily from 3.30pm until midnight). The trail passes 10 different locations along its route, taking in the tower of the Church of Our Lady as you have never seen it before, the projections of the two ‘seeking lovers’ on the Gruuthuse Square, and your very own sticker creations on the Powder Tower (Gunpowder Tower). Have a walk through the city and enjoy the new, magical Christmas lights and the many Christmas trees that grace our cityscape.
The organizers and mayor emphasize that the light trail is completely corona-proof and that you can therefore travel to Bruges without any worries. "We have been extremely careful: we originally planned 14 light installations, but to ensure safety, we kept ten of them," said the mayor. "They are explained in a handy Winter Glow app. The app makes it possible to comfortably do what we now enjoy so much: walking in the open air and indulging in positive stimuli. What makes Bruges even more suitable for a breath of fresh air are the hundreds of Christmas trees that provide green accents and a forest feeling in the city. "
Enjoy Winter Glow in all safety and adhere to the following measures:
- Stick to the maximum number of 4 people you can walk around with in group and make sur to keep a distance of 1.5 metres between you.
- Always wear a face mask.
- Remember that curfew kicks in at midnight
